The Data Storytelling Competition 2025 is a dynamic and creative challenge for primary school students (10+ years) to build skills in data literacy, creativity, analysis, and communication. The objectives are to:

  • Foster data literacy among students aged 10 and above.
  • Encourage creativity in using data to tell compelling stories.
  • Promote teamwork, analytical thinking, and effective communication.
  • Inspire students to explore STEM fields, particularly data science, through hands-on activities.

Participants will collect real-world data and present their findings through compelling short video stories. It is about making data meaningfulβ€”and fun!

🎯 Theme

β€œTell the Story about the Data!”

Students will explore everyday questions using data collected from their school, family, or communityβ€”turning observations into real stories!

  • Post-SEA primary school students (aged 10+)
  • Teams of 2 to 4 students
  • Each participant must have parent/guardian consent
🧩 Competition Phases

πŸ“ Phase 1: Registration

  • Deadline: May 26, 2025 (subject to change)
  • Register here
  • Parental Consent and Talent Release Forms are required and will be sent to eligible, registered participants.

πŸ” Phase 2: Collect Your Data

Students can collect simple data on topics such as, but not limited to:

  • Favourite foods in class πŸ•
  • Sleep habits 😴
  • Sports preferences ⚽
  • Recess routines

πŸ“Š Phase 3: Analyse and Tell the Story

  • Use charts (bar, pictographs etc) to visualise data.
  • Tell a story: What does the data reveal? Why is it interesting?
  • Use the Student Data Storytelling Guide to plan.

  • Format: 2–3 min video (MP4)
