WiDS TT Datathon Workshops & Regional Events
The WiDS Trinidad and Tobago (WiDS TT) is hosting virtual workshops and regional events in support of the international WiDS Datathon Challenge, using data to tell a story. The main goals are:
- to provide data science enthusiasts with the necessary knowledge, resources and tools to assist in the international WiDS Datathon challenge and beyond
- to promote awareness about data science experiences from the female perspective, featuring women in data science-related fields in academia and industry
The WiDS Datathon 2026 Challenges themed Predicting Wildfire Impact: From Infrastructure to Equity is a predictive analytics challenge hosted on Kaggle. In collaboration with real-time wildfire data from Watch Duty, a nonprofit that is democratizing emergency information to protect lives and strengthen communities, this year’s challenges invite participants to forecast wildfire impacts and design equitable interventions. By combining geospatial modeling with human-centered design, participants will create tools that protect lives, strengthen infrastructure, and empower the communities most at risk.
The Datathon Challenge will run from January 27th – May 1st 2026.
- Persons interested in data science are invited to participate in any of the challenges, including ABSOLUTE beginners.
- It is open to individuals or teams of up to 4; at least half of each team must be individuals who identify as women.
- Participants can be students, faculty, government workers, members of NGOs, or industry members.
- Participants have FREE access to data science skill-building resources, Modeling/coding tutorials and videos, Supportive mentors, Global networking opportunities, Local Prizes and Certificates, Team building for a good cause in local communities .
The WiDS TT Virtual Workshop Series is a dynamic and interactive platform designed to empower participants with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the data-driven world. Spanning multiple sessions, this series explores key topics such as data exploration, modeling, and storytelling, tailored for participants of the WiDS Global Datathon 2025 and beyond.
With expert-led discussions, hands-on activities, and opportunities for collaboration, this series is perfect for beginners and enthusiasts eager to unlock the power of data. Join us to learn, connect, and make an impact through data science!
