Recently, Women in Data Science Trinidad and Tobago (WiDS TT) and the TTLAB Data Science group hosted a networking meet-up with our dedicated mentors and Ms. Sophie O’Donoghue, the UNFPA lead for the NextWave Youth Data Climate Challenge 2026.
The gathering provided a wonderful opportunity to connect in person, reflect on the initiative’s journey, and strategize our ongoing support for the region’s young data innovators. WiDS TT and TTLAB were proud to support the challenge by providing training and mentorship to over 30 Caribbean participants aged 15 to 24. Through practical sessions, these young leaders explored data science basics, responsible data use, and open-source climate resilience solutions. Their creativity and engagement continue to showcase the strength of youth-led data capacity in the Caribbean.
As the competition advances, we are thrilled to continue guiding the top three teams:
- Youth Advocacy Movement (Jamaica)
- Team Climate Watch TT (Trinidad)
- Team Our Right to Resilience
Our mentors will provide these teams with continued practical feedback and guidance as they refine their data-driven climate solutions. We extend our deepest gratitude to the UNFPA, our partners, and especially Ms. Sophie O’Donoghue for her visionary leadership in creating meaningful opportunities for Caribbean youth. We are excited to see how our young innovators use data, creativity, and community insight to advance climate resilience across the region!
