Featured Speakers: Ms. Julie Koon Koon, Ms. Lesley-Ann Jurawan & Ms. Malini Ramberran
Highlights
This workshop provided participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of data science, focusing on building effective data models and telling impactful data stories, specifically for the WiDS Global Datathon Challenge 2025. They explored key techniques such as feature selection, predictive modeling, and translating data insights into compelling narratives. Ms. Julie Koon Koon, Ms. Malini Ramberran, Ms. Lesley-Ann Jurawan, and Mr. Nicholas Smith guided attendees through technical concepts like overfitting and underfitting while highlighting the importance of collaboration and accessibility in data science.
Feedback
Participants were provided with a link to a Google Form survey during the workshop, allowing them to share their insights on the session. This brief 5-minute survey was designed to gather valuable feedback to enhance future workshops, ensuring they are more engaging, relevant, and impactful. The responses received play a crucial role in shaping the content, format, and overall experience of the WiDS TT sessions, helping us tailor them to better meet participants’ needs. Specific details are as follows:
- 3 people completed the survey.
- Level of Data Science knowledge: one respondent (33.3%) identified as an absolute beginner, with no prior experience and two persons (66.7%) identified as a beginner, having some experience in statistics, programming, and related concepts.
Workshop:
- Learning outcomes/topics clarity and articulation: two participants strongly agreed, and one agreed.
- Structure and ease of following: three participants strongly agreed.
- Activities alignment with defined learning outcomes: one participant strongly agreed, and two persons agreed.
- Activities usefulness for developing professional competence or personal learning goals: one participant strongly agreed, and two persons agreed.
